Missouri Backyard BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders

Welcome to The Don’t Settle Recipe Box — a simple collection of recipes made for real life, real homes, and the kind of gatherings that make Missouri living feel special.

There’s something about Missouri living that makes BBQ feel right at home.

Maybe it’s the backyard tables, the lake weekends, the game-day gatherings, or the simple fact that a good BBQ recipe can feed a crowd without making the host feel stuck in the kitchen all day.

These pulled pork sliders are easy, flavorful, and flexible. They work for a casual dinner, a summer get-together, a potluck, or one of those weekends where everyone seems to be coming and going at different times.

And honestly, that’s the kind of recipe I love most.

Simple enough to make again.

Good enough that people ask for the recipe.

Missouri Backyard BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders

These easy pulled pork sliders are made with tender slow-cooked pork, warm BBQ flavor, soft slider buns, and simple toppings like pickles or coleslaw. They are easy to make ahead, easy to serve, and perfect for casual Missouri gatherings.

Pulled pork sliders with barbecue sauce, pickles, and coleslaw

Ingredients

For the Pulled Pork

  • 3 to 4 lb pork shoulder or pork butt
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

For Serving

  • Slider buns
  • Extra BBQ sauce
  • Pickles
  • Coleslaw, optional
  • Sliced red onion, optional

Instructions

In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and chili powder.

Rub the seasoning mixture over the pork.

Place the pork in a slow cooker.

Add BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, and Worcestershire sauce.

Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 to 5 hours, until the pork is tender and easy to shred.

Remove the pork, shred it with two forks, and return it to the slow cooker.

Stir the shredded pork into the sauce and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.

Serve on slider buns with pickles, coleslaw, and extra BBQ sauce.

Make It Your Own

This recipe is easy to adjust based on the kind of gathering you are planning.

Use a sweeter BBQ sauce if you want a milder flavor.

Add a little hot sauce or cayenne if you want more heat.

Serve the pork over baked potatoes instead of slider buns.

Use Hawaiian rolls for a softer, slightly sweet slider.

Top with creamy coleslaw for crunch.

Set out pickles, onions, jalapeños, and extra BBQ sauce so guests can build their own.

Perfect For

These pulled pork sliders are a great fit for backyard cookouts, lake weekends, game days, potlucks, casual dinners, and easy gatherings where people can serve themselves and come back for seconds.

Why This Recipe Works for Missouri Living

This is the kind of recipe that fits real life.

It works for a backyard cookout, a lake weekend, a casual dinner after a long day, or a simple meal to share when people stop by.

It is not fancy.

It is not fussy.

But it does exactly what a good recipe should do: it brings people to the table.

And that is one of the things I love about home. It is not just where we live. It is where people gather, eat, laugh, and make ordinary days feel a little more memorable.
